I have written a ton about habit change: including numerous blog posts, and my book filled with ways to be happier, nicer, more organized, and healthier. I have also given speeches to thousands of people on the same subject.
This is going to be one of the shortest posts I have ever written.
I heard something recently about habit change I found very powerful.
The battle we face is, “What I want now vs. what I want most.”
For example:
What I want now: a piece of cake I can reach for on the dessert table at a family event.
What I want most: good health.
When you find yourself in situations that test your ability to maintain good habits, ask yourself, “What do I want most?” It could be the mantra you need to help you make changes that stick.
Be well,
David
